Newport News breaks ground on mixed-use development project to revitalize Southeast Community
The 18-acre property in Newport News’ Southeast Community was once an aging public housing complex named Ridley Place. It’s gone now — closed in 2020 and demolished earlier this year. The city’s housing authority and Pennrose, a development group, are leading the project’s development and Breeden Construction is the builder. Construction of this phase is expected to be completed in late 2024, according to the city.

As it continues upgrades to five subsidized housing properties in Richmond, a local construction company is marking the completion of similar work in Petersburg and nearing the end of another project there.
Richmond-based Breeden Construction recently completed 50 new apartments that make up an initial redevelopment phase for Pecan Acres, a 134-unit public housing complex managed by the Petersburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

The City of Richmond has made its pick in its months-long search for a development team to guide its Diamond District redevelopment.
The city announced Monday it is going with RVA Diamond Partners, led by D.C.-based Republic Properties Corp., Richmond-based developer Thalhimer Realty Partners (TRP) and Chicago-based investment bank Loop Capital. Breeden Construction will serve as part of the general contracting team - focusing on the multifamily portion of the project.

The Breeden Company, the nationally recognized Virginia Beach-based real estate development firm, announced today they have closed on a 15.64 acre multifamily tract in the Chesterfield County area of Richmond, Virginia. The land parcel, located at the intersection of Route 288 and Genito Road, is expected to begin development Spring 2023 and be completed Spring 2024.
